The Skipper Foundation’s Student Leadership Training program is designed specifically for the young people already stepping into leadership roles in Kenya’s schools — school presidents, prefects, and student council members. Through full-day workshops and certified training sessions, students gain the practical skills and the character foundation they need to lead their peers with confidence and integrity.

What students learn

Communication

Students learn to speak clearly, listen actively, and convey ideas with confidence in front of peers and staff.

Decision-making

Structured exercises help students weigh options, think critically, and make sound decisions under pressure.

Servant leadership

Students explore what it means to lead by serving — putting the needs of others first while maintaining clear direction.

Who this is for

Students elected to the most visible leadership roles in their school benefit most from the full-day intensive format. The program gives them a shared language and framework they can bring back to their councils immediately.
The training is built to work with the entire prefect or student council team, not just individual leaders. Group sessions build cohesion, accountability, and a collective leadership culture.
Schools can also open sessions to students who are not yet in formal leadership roles but show potential — giving them the foundation to step up when the opportunity comes.

How the program works

1

School contacts the Foundation

A headteacher, deputy principal, or administrator reaches out via the booking form to describe their school’s needs and preferred dates.
2

Program is tailored to your school

The Foundation works with your school to confirm the participant group, session length, and any specific themes relevant to your student body.
3

Full-day workshop is delivered on site

Skipper Nyongesa or a Foundation facilitator delivers the training at your school. Sessions are hands-on, interactive, and grounded in real leadership scenarios.
4

Students receive certified recognition

Participants who complete the training receive certified recognition of their leadership development, giving them a lasting record of their commitment.
The Student Leadership Training program is available to secondary schools across Kenya. Sessions can be scheduled during term time or as part of a school leadership retreat.
